A Bit About Tracy

Tracy Hutson has been a stylist and designer since 1999, when she started her own Los Angeles-based design business. In 2003 she became part of the design team on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, a television phenomenon dedicated to renovating and rebuilding homes for families in need. Currently in its sixth season, the show ranks number one in its time slot across all demographics, boasts 14 million viewers per week, has won two Emmy awards, and has been nominated for a fourth.

Through her involvement with the show, Tracy has witnessed firsthand the dramatic impact that living spaces have on the lives of the people who occupy them. Every episode stimulates her naturally philanthropic spirit, and she responds to each family’s needs with compassion and enthusiasm. Given her particular zeal for designing children’s spaces, she lovingly customizes rooms for the younger family members, adding personal touches that consistently enthrall and enchant.

During Season Two of the show, Tracy found out that she was expecting a child of her own. She gave birth to Oliver in May 2005, an event that would change her career and knowledge in inspiring ways. Oliver and mom hit the road for their first season designing together, traveling to help families in need, the presence of her son adding a new dimension to Tracy’s work and expanding her love of designing spaces for little ones. Her work on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has been a profound learning experience.

In 2007, Tracy found out she was expecting for the second time. She wanted to create a space for her new baby and Oliver that was not only environmentally safe but also fun and enjoyable for her little ones. After the birth of Felix, designing green spaces became her passion. Even with her growing family, she found time to complete her first book combining her love for designing nurseries and her commitment to the environment. Tracy’s book, Feathering The Nest: An Earth-Friendly Guide To Decorating your Baby’s Nest will be out on shelves in Spring 2009 and will show families how easy and rewarding it can be to create a green nursery for their babies.

With Tracy juggling motherhood and many upcoming projects, she will still be seen this season on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Tracy feels it is such and honor to help these deserving families in need and it is something she holds very close to her heart.
